Exclusive: At Starz, Chris Albrecht is boss, and the irony doesn't escape him.The pay cabler is betting heavily on its next original series, "Boss," which offers Kelsey Grammer his most important dramatic turn in a career dominated by comedy.The five-time Emmy winner plays a hot-headed Chicago mayor suffering from a fatal neurological disease he's hiding from both those close to him and his constituents. It's a series that could bring Grammer the kind of genre turnaround that has done wonders for Bryan Cranston.Albrecht doesn't anticipate auds will suddenly forget about "Frasier" while watching "Boss," but what he wants Grammer and the series to do is put Starz firmly in viewers' consciousness. The net, which has made some breakthroughs with its "Spartacus" franchise, is still finding its way in a very busy TV landscape."We've got to walk carefully and not make mistakes," Albrecht told Variety from at the Television Critics Assn. confab in Beverly Hills. "From a programming point of view, there's always opportunity to do new stuff that hasn't been done before, but it's crowded out there," he said. "We started doing stuff at HBO when there were four networks doing (original programming), and now there's 40. So that always adds a little different degree of difficulty."Even if "Boss," which debuts Oct. 21, fares well for Starz, the Liberty-owned network won't reap all of the benefits. The series is produced by Lionsgate, and, as HBO can attest, significant money is made when networks own their own series. HBO, for example, owns both "Game of Thrones" and "Boardwalk Empire," and makes millions when those shows air overseas.Albrecht is well aware of that fact, of course, but he sees it as part of the Starz growing process. He believes that no matter who's paying production costs, the most important thing right now is to get the programs viewed by as many TV watchers as possible and that that exposure will make Starz a competitive player."We've made the decision to look for partners on some of our shows outside of the U.S. because it's how we're looking at being able to ramp up," Albrecht explained. "The trade off is you don't control your brand outside of the U.S."On the distribution side, Starz -- which also includes a multitude of genre channels, as well as Encore -- needs to get into more homes in order to better compete with HBO and Showtime. And somewhat hurting Starz's bottom line is that there are a fair share of households that receive the net's programming because cable providers, satcasters and telcos and are bundling the channels for a discounted price.One way Starz is differentiating itself from its pay cable competish is that it greenlights series straight from development. The shortcut comes with risks, however."We've added a degree of difficulty for ourselves because we're not doing pilots. We don't want to spend the money to do them," Albrecht said. "That's been a challenging process. One of the purposes of the pilot, aside from being a sales tool, is to look at it as a practice run. You get to go back when you're in production and fix it. You can't that when there's no pilot."Albrecht spent 22 years at HBO and spearheaded some of the net's signature shows, including "The Sopranos," "Sex and the City" and "Deadwood." He looks back at those times and realizes that if Starz is to be part of the same conversation with HBO, he'll have to employ a bit of what he learned over there from Jeff Bewkes and co. "What I take from HBO is a lot of experience and appreciation for how difficult it is and how much we need to apply ourselves here," he explained. "What I also take away is that it wasn't a secret formula, but it was a really good formula and here I'm trying things a little different."I feel very good about where we are creatively. I think our best is certainly yet to come and I feel very bullish that with good strategic thinking and execution on the business side, Starz has a really good story to tell," Albrecht added. Chic geek Simon Pegg is starring in A Fantastic Fear Of Everything, playing a children’s author turned crime novelist. His character's research into the lives of Victorian serial killers turns him into a paranoid wreck – a condition made much worse when Hollywood decides to make a film based on his findings. Former Kula Shaker (remember them?) frontman Crispian Mills wrote the script and is co-directing with animator Chris Hopewell. The psycho comedy is currently shooting at Shepperton studios and is the first project to be backed by Pinewood’s new initiative to support low budget British films. “We have waited for the right project, at the right time to launch our new investment scheme and with the involvement of Keel Films, Universal Acquisitions and Simon Pegg this is the perfect fit for the Studios,” Pinewood chief executive Ivan Dunleavy told Screen.

Fact-based story about the court proceedings that followed Cincinnati art museum director Dennis Barrie after his decision to display a controversial art exhibit by photographer Robert Mapplethorpe. The proceedings start with an inflamed County Sheriff who is determined to put Barrie in jail. A grand jury established to determine whether the sexually explicit photographs were obscene found seven of the pictures to possibly be obscene. The seven pictures depicted nude children, a man ramming his fist up another man's anus, and man with his finger in his penis. Other pictures in the exhibit did depict explicit nudity and sexual connotation. An obviously biased judge made derisive decisions throughout the trial. The strain of the trial also placed Barrie's marriage under duress, which ultimately led to his wife divorcing him, and led to Barrie's children being derided and physically attacked by their classmates.

thanks to a new official shot from the currently-shooting book adap.*

This latest snap gives us our first glimpse of Bofur (James Nesbitt),
Bombur (Stephen Hunter), and Bifur (William Kircher).

Set apart from the rest of the Company of Thorin Oakenshield, Bofur,
his brother Bombur and their cousin Bifur are descendants of coal
miners and iron workers.

Their participation in the quest for the Lonely Mountain mostly hinges
on the promise of free beer and great treasure.

Peter Jackson is being pretty canny with the release of all these
_Hobbit_ shots. By sating our appetite for new stuff even while
shooting's underway, he’s keeping security tight and fans very,
very happy.

Sadly, seeing as central dragon Smaug will be a CGI creation,
we’ll probably be waiting a long time before we get our first
glimpse of him…

douchebag, he then lives with a news achnor who has a gay club
undernearth his house and gives him a job to sell organs in a
lunchbox, Then there is a famous counrty star he lives with,
It was a rather funny movie, i think the title was something on the
lines of *NAME* is a douchebag or something simlar,

So for the life of me I can't remember this old kung fu movie I used
to watch when I was a kid... it was dubbed but it was about I think 5
kids ( I think 5) and they had the pretty martial arts teacher, but
they stumble upon a soldier who then teaches them more kung fu with
crazy training like one of the kids had to strengthen his teeth by
biting down on sugar canes and he falls in love with their lady
instructor..... later in the movie they end up fighting a small army
and the big boss at the end, there was also a hopping vampire in it
that bonded w/ the fat one of the group. I remember only like three
characters in the movie, one was a little monk boy w/ one earring and
he ended up teaching himself drunken boxing which was huge for the big
boss fight... there was the fat one who ended up bonding with the
hopping vampire and having a sumo match w/ one of the bad guys.... and
the small bald headed kid who did the sugar cane training. Its funny
I remember who some of the characters were BUT I CAN'T THINK OF THE
NAME OF THE MOVIE lol we called it "Kung Fu kids" when I was little.
If anyone knows the name or can point me in the right direction that
would be AWESOME!

Just wondering, about the little Polish boy, 'Georgie'.

Did he get stabbed?
Or did he stab himself?

It seems very odd to me that he got stabbed by some young children
around his age, who didn't look like the typical 'gangsters', who were
just running by, who happened to get a knife out quick enough to stab
him?

Watching it again, it seems obvious that he did get stabbed. But I
live in London and seems very unlikely that a bunch of 10 year old's
would just run up to someone random and stab them in the stomach. And
to stab deep enough.

Also find it very hard that people would just walk by like that, even
to a crying or collapse child. Yes, I'm aware of the ever increasing
"Bystander Effect" (Where no one goes to help because they're
frightened of themselves getting hurt).

so im in senior a media studies class and for this/next term we are
required to create a short film based on anything we'd like. My group
and i have decided to go with the genre horror. one thing we have
assured is we want the short film to be based on some kind of legend
about a doll (my mate has this scary as clown doll thingy) the thing
we are struggling with is our story line. we dont know what our short
